About Dr. DeWanda Major Owens
Dr. DeWanda Major Owens is the wife of Roosevelt Owens of Liddiville LA; she is the daughter of Arcola Major Tarver and the late Jimmie Harris Jr. She is the first born granddaughter of the late Curtis and Yvonne Major of Gilbert La. She indicates she was reared in the Village of Gilbert by the Village of Gilbert it takes a Village!
Dr. DeWanda states her childhood being reared in a area of Gilbert which was often referred to a Carrols Quarters showed her hard work commitment and perseverance are a key to success. She says watching her Grandfather and uncles farm and reap the benefit of a good harvest helped her throughout her adult life. She says her rearing eliminated fear of failure and highlighted what a good harvest looks like.
Dr. DeWanda graduated from Gilbert High School in 1987 and moved away to begin her journey. She has become one who loves education and believes knowledge is power. She received a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Southern University with Associate degree of Substance Abuse in 2010. She furthered her education at Southern University and received a Masters in Criminal Justice in 2013, she received her doctorate degree in 2023 and continues to pursue knowledge to help advocate for others.
Dr. DeWanda has a yielding result in advocacy on behalf of others she works with OCDD, Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, OAAS, and Office of Adult Aging She serves as leader, mentor and coach to many.
Dr. DeWanda is known as a voice for the people. Meet her Saturday September 12th as she answers any and all questions the citizens of the Village of Gilbert might have regarding her campaign agenda.
